the Earth is a gift. Psalm 19
As we seek optimal health, we often look to God’s created world for answers. One of the most potent gift comes in the form of high polyphenol olive oil, a powerhouse of nutrition and an elixir for longevity.
Polyphenols are a category of chemicals naturally found in plants. These compounds are responsible for the Olive Oil’s taste and provide a host of health benefits. They have been shown to possess anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and cardioprotective properties. This is why high polyphenol olive oil is often considered superior to other types of olive oil when it comes to health benefits.
A study published in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that polyphenols can improve heart health by reducing blood pressure and cholesterol levels. Another research article in the Journal of Nutritional Biochemistry explains that the polyphenols in olive oil may help in reducing inflammation, a risk factor for many chronic diseases.
Polyphenols in Olive Oil have also been found to have neuroprotective effects. A study from the journal Molecules indicates that oleocanthal, a specific type of polyphenol, may protect against Alzheimer’s disease. These compounds also show potential in protecting against certain types of cancer: study in the International Journal of Molecular Sciences.
When looking for the best high polyphenol olive oil, consider factors such as the type of olives used, the harvest date, and the method of extraction. The fresher the oil, the higher the polyphenol content, as these compounds degrade over time. Cold-pressed extra virgin olive oil typically contains the highest levels of polyphenols. At Templeton Olive Oil we machine harvest which means the time from harvest to extraction is only one day and the olives never sit!
High polyphenol olive oils are known for their distinct flavors, which can range from grassy and peppery to floral and fruity. The high polyphenol content contributes to what is often described as a “bitter” and “pungent” taste, which is actually a sign of the oil’s health-boosting properties. You will love the exceptional luxurious taste of Templeton Olive Oil.
Olive Oil should be used in a way that preserves its nutritional profile. Ideas include: a finishing oil on salads, soups, vegetables, and bread is a great way to enjoy its flavor and health benefits. Cooking with high polyphenol olive oil is possible, but it should be done at low to medium temperatures to prevent the degradation of polyphenols.
It is extremely unfortunately to have to note that mislabeling is very common, with some brands marketing lower quality oils as “extra virgin” or “high in polyphenols” without adhering to the strict standards these claims require. A consumer should look for certifications and lab tests verifying the polyphenol content.
