Olive Oil Popcorn (or Honey Kettle Corn!)
Who doesn’t love the light crunch of freshly popped popcorn? Whether enjoying during a movie, as a snack, or even on the go, popcorn is a great choice. Popcorn is low in calories and high in fiber making it a healthy choice. Unfortunately most popcorns you eat at the movies are loaded with calories and bad fats due to the large amounts of unhealthy oils and butter that they are cooked and topped with. Even many microwave and bagged popcorn contain unhealthy ingredients that add calories and unhealthy fats.
This healthy way to make and top popcorn is a great way to ensure that you are getting the health benefits of popcorn without compromising the flavor. (Stovetop popping in a pot or Whirly Pop creates the most uniform and delicious flavor in our opinion, but using an air popper is another option.)
Recipe:
Popcorn kernals
Salt
Optional honey
Instructions:
On medium heat add 2 tablespoons of Templeton Olive Oil per 1/2 cup of unpopped popcorn kernels.
Add in popcorn kernels and begin to slowly turn handle or shake the pot, rotating kernels and coating them in the olive oil.
Keep spinning/shaking until all of the kernels are popped.
Once popcorn is in a bowl, add an additional light drizzle of olive oil and salt to taste.
Alternative: For a sweet kettle corn flavor, drizzle honey as well - scrumptious!)
Enjoy!!!
NOTE: If using an air popper, simply pop the popcorn and drizzle olive oil on top, shake and repeat with salt.
